Freedom of the Seas, Volume 1 is intended as a reference for kayakers and canoeists touring large bodies of water. This book is written from a Canadian perspective. The examples in this book are drawn from across Canada, but the lessons can be applied anywhere in the world.

Ladner Paddling Club
KAT launched the Ladner Paddling Club (LPC) in 2001 to provide paddlers with a convenient and economic way to use the rental kayaks at the KAT facility in Ladner harbour. LPC also provides the opportunity for networking with other paddling enthusiasts - club members post their upcoming paddle times so other members can join them.
Safety and Personal Responsibility are the cornerstones of the LPC. KAT strongly encourages all aspiring LPC members (as well as casual renters of our boats) to participate in a Guided Kayak Tour prior to using one of the kayaks on an independent basis.
LPC members must:
- be 19 years of age or older or younger participants must be accompanied by parent/guardian on the water
- be competent in performing a capsize self-recovery strategy unless KAT staff are present on the water
- complete and sign KAT Waiver of Liability for the current season
- pay all LPC fees and dues in full
LPC members must have their own Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
LPC members must demonstrate self-recovery competence in order to fully participate in the programme. This essential safety protocol may be satisfied by way of recognized training in capsize recovery strategies or a personal demonstration of a paddle float recovery witnessed by KAT staff.
NOTE: LPC members who have registered for capsize recovery training will be invited to participate in posted Guided Kayak Tours wherein KAT staff are present at no additional cost.
2010 LPC RATES
KAT offers both a month to month rate and a full season rate. Either is exceptional value but the Full Season rate gives you the best value for your paddling dollars.
Peak Season (April 1 to September 30)
Month to Month: $75.00 per month plus taxes
Full Season: $390.00 plus taxes
Non-peak Season (October 1 - March 31)
Month to Month: $60.00 per month plus taxes
Full Season: $300.00 plus taxes
Current tax rate is 5% GST and 7% PST for a total of 12% tax.
Paddlers who join the club part-way during either the Peak or Non-Peak seasons and who pay for a Full Season pass will receive a discount over the month to month fees.
