About the Ladner Paddling Club (LPC)
The Ladner Paddling Club was an initiative launched in 2001 by Kaymaran Adventure Tours. The
concept provides a structure for club members to enjoy convenient and economical use of K.A.T.'s
rental kayaks from our float in Ladner Harbour.
Just as important, it also allows the opportunity
for networking with other paddling enthusiasts to share in this exciting pastime. Most of the LPC
were beginning paddlers when they first discovered Kaymaran Adventure Tours. Many of them live
close by in Ladner, Tsawwassen or Richmond. Strong friendships have been formed between our
members the majority of whom are women.
As Tony says, "Members communicate by email and telephone
to schedule group paddles as well as other events. This concept must be what people want - some
of our members have their own boats and still want to participate in this program. It's about fun
and fitness - it's social and it's safe."
Safety and personal responsibility are the cornerstones of the LPC
K.A.T. strongly encourages all aspiring LPC members (as well as casual renters of our boats) to
participate in a guided kayak tour prior to using one of the kayaks on an independent basis.
Experience has proven this
policy to be prudent and necessary for optimum client safety and enjoyment. The Lower Fraser
River estuary/delta and the Ladner Marsh offers unique year round paddling opportunities in
reasonably protected waters; however, the importance of local knowledge and an appreciation
of the challenges relating to tide and current implications must be recognized.
